Many books are written by Generals who give the overall strategy for campaigns but for me, I like reading the common soldiers viewpoint as it was he who marched the dusty roads of the south, struggled through the mud, and put his life on the line while fighting for his convictions. It was mostly western troops who marched to Atlanta and then onto the sea and along with Sherman, made Georgia howl as they cut a 60 mile swath through the heartland of this rebellious state.
